The Senator Adolphus Wagbara-led Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party is currently meeting with the party’s National Assembly caucus at the PDP Legacy House, Abuja.
The meeting which was convened at the instance of the BoT is part of consultations to find an amicable solution to the crisis of confidence among some of the party’s leaders.
Recall that the PDP has been embroiled in internal conflict before, during and after the 2023 elections.
A number of party stalwarts had complained against the seeming inaction on the part of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, on calls to clamp down on party members engaged in various acts of anti-party activities.
Another point in reference is the seemingly intractable crisis in the Rivers State chapter of the party.
The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his estranged godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have been engaged in a war of attrition over the control of the party structure in the state.
Wike had also threatened to “set fire” to PDP-controlled states if the PDP Governors Forum attempted to take over the structure from him and his loyalists and hand same over to Fubara their colleague.
In response, the chairman of the PDPGF, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, said no one including Wike can set fire to to the party in his state.
The BoT had on Wednesday held separate meetings with Wike and Bala Mohammed to broker peace.
The meeting between the National Assembly Caucus and the BoT is currently ongoing in Abuja.
Those at the meeting include Senator Wabara, Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip, Hon. Ali Isa JC, and Hon. Pastor Ojema Ojotu, among others.
