PDP expels CUPP spokesman Ikenga Ugochinyere over misconduct

The Peoples Democratic Party has expelled Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing the Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State and Spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, for gross indiscipline, insubordination, and engaging in activities contrary to the party’s interests.

Ugochinyere’s expulsion was confirmed in a letter from the Ideato Local Government Area chapter of the PDP, dated December 5, 2024.

The letter, signed by LGA Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, was addressed to the state chairman of the party.

The expulsion came after the party’s disciplinary committee presented its report, dated November 27, 2024, which investigated allegations of misconduct against Ugochinyere in accordance with Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).

The lawmaker had been suspended by his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024, after he failed to appear before the ward’s Executive Committee on October 5, 2024, to address disciplinary charges.

Despite receiving subsequent reminders and invitations, he did not respond to the party’s requests.

According to the letter, the Ideato North LGA Executive Committee met on December 5, 2024, and unanimously approved the disciplinary committee’s findings.

As a result, Ugochinyere was expelled from the party with immediate effect, and he is no longer a member of the PDP in his ward, according to Daily Post.

The PDP found Ugochinyere guilty of repeatedly failing to attend meetings and participate in party activities, which violated Section 58 (1)(e) of the party’s constitution. He was also accused of engaging in unauthorized publicity of internal disputes, contrary to Section 58(1)(i), and of forming parallel party structures at the ward, LGA, and national levels. Furthermore, Ugochinyere’s repeated derogatory and provocative public statements against the party and its national leaders were seen as actions that brought disrepute to the organization.

The letter partly read: “Upon receipt of the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North met on December 5, 2024, and unanimously adopted the report of the disciplinary committee.

“In light of this, Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the party (PDP) with immediate effect, and he ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”
