The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, stated that Tuesday’s stakeholders meeting was organized to strengthen relationships among party leaders following last week’s National Working Committee crisis.
Mohammed made this remark in his opening address during the expanded meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum, which included the Board of Trustees, the NWC, former governors, and other key stakeholders.
According to Mohammed, the meeting was focused on reconciliation within the party.
“This is a PDP meeting. It is not a governor’s meeting, it is not a caucus meeting, but a meeting of PDP stakeholders,” he emphasized.
He continued, “It is a one-item agenda meeting. As you can see, we are all united today under the leadership of Amb. Umar Damagum. We are here to discuss issues that are germane.”
Mohammed also expressed the party’s commitment to providing a political alternative in Nigeria, resisting any move toward a one-party system.
“We will resist any attempt to make Nigeria a one-party state. We will use our experiences since 1999 to provide Nigerians with an alternative platform,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, five out of the party’s 13 governors were present at the meeting. These were Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
