The Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State has appointed former Governor Samuel Ortom as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tim Nyor, announced the nomination in a statement issued on Tuesday in Makurdi.
He explained that the decision followed the expiration of the tenure of the previous BoT members.
In line with the PDP Constitution, particularly sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4), Nyor revealed that the nomination was formalized through a letter from the party secretariat to Ortom, signed by the State Secretary, Mr. Dan Nyikwagh.
The State Working Committee expressed confidence in Ortom’s extensive experience and commitment to the party, noting that his leadership and contributions made him an ideal candidate for the position. The SWC, under the chairmanship of Ezekiel Adaji, unanimously endorsed Ortom for the role.
Nyor also voiced optimism that Ortom’s appointment would enhance the party’s unity in Benue and help ensure the state’s interests are effectively represented within the national party framework.
Nyor said: “In compliance with sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP Constitution, the nomination was announced via correspondence from the party secretariat to Chief Ortom and signed by the State Secretary, Mr. Dan Nyikwagh.
“The SWC believes that Ortom’s extensive experience and dedication to the party made him the ideal candidate for the position.
“After careful deliberation, the SWC, under the chairmanship of Ezekiel Adaji, unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognising your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP.”
