The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has summoned feuding stakeholders from its Cross River State chapter to a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, aiming to resolve the ongoing crisis of confidence within the party.
The crisis stems from the suspension of the state party chairman, Venatius Ikem, by some members of the party’s state executive in November. The NWC, however, swiftly rejected the suspension, declaring it illegal, unconstitutional, null, void, and of no effect.
Vanguard reported that in a letter sighted on Wednesday in Abuja, the NWC outlined the purpose and details of the meeting, which is intended as an interactive and fact-finding session.
The letter read in part, “Following the recent development in the Cross River State Chapter of our Party, where members of the State Executive Committee have reported to have suspended the State Chairman, the National Working Committee, NWC, of our Party; after deliberating on the situation, concluded to invite the Critical Stakeholders in Cross River State for an interactive/Fact-Finding meeting as follows:
“Date: Thursday, December 12, 2024;
“Venue: NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja FCT, Time: 12 noon.
“Please note that attendance is strictly by invitation as par the attached list.”
This meeting underscores the PDP’s commitment to addressing internal disputes and fostering unity within its ranks, particularly in states grappling with leadership challenges. All eyes are now on the outcome of Thursday’s deliberations as the party seeks to chart a path forward in Cross River State.
