Security agencies have arrested Emmanuel Okoronkwo, an aide to the embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, for allegedly attempting to disrupt a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee.
According to AIT News, Okoronkwo’s arrest follows multiple allegations of misconduct, with sources claiming he has been acting on behalf of Anyanwu amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the party.
During its Wednesday NWC meeting in Abuja, the PDP leadership reaffirmed its stance that Senator Anyanwu lacked the moral and legal standing to continue as the party’s National Secretary.
The Supreme Court, in a ruling issued on Monday, March 10, reserved judgment on the case concerning Anyanwu’s removal from office. The matter stems from his resignation to contest the last Imo governorship election and the PDP leadership’s refusal to allow him to retain his position after his electoral defeat.
Wednesday’s incident marks another chapter in the leadership crisis within the PDP following the decisions of an appellate and high court in Enugu, both of which removed Anyanwu as National Secretary.
