The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State has been making frantic efforts to reposition the main opposition party in the state.
Stating this while addressing PDP members at its General Assembly held in Lagos on Thursday, a Chieftain of the party, Chief Olabode George, urged the members in the state to be steadfast, noting that there is an ongoing effort to ensure the party regains its structure.
The main opposition party had suffered a major setback in the last general election, which led to the failure of its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to win the last Presidential election.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike led the G-5 governors and other party chieftains, to demand the resignation of the former party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to achieve a “regional balance” since Ayu and the PDP presidential candidate, were both from the Northern part of the country.
Wike who was then the governor of Rivers State, alongside other governors of the party, not that the cause of the leadership crisis in the party was the failure to zone the party’s presidential ticket to southern Nigeria in line with the party’s constitution.
However, Chief Gorge while addressing the PDP members at its general assembly held in Lagos, ensured that the party would soon gain its enviable position.
The meeting initiative by the PDP leader, was held to assure members and loyalists in the state that despite the outcome of the general elections in the country, the party remains an indivisible entity.
Speaking at the event, Chief George reassured all members that despite what happened during the last general elections, PDP members should remain steadfast as they would not be allowed to go into extinction.
“I urge all you, who have been faithful, to remain steadfast; we would ensure that the party regains its lost glory,” he said.
He added that in due course, the national leadership of the party must conduct a “thorough post-mortem to resolve all issues that affected the party.”
The PDP chieftain however assured that all members whose actions affected the party negatively must be held accountable, particularly in the area of accountability and financial recklessness.
