The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dino Melaye, has said his non participation in the voting exercise on the Saturday’s election is immaterial to his lose in the polls.
Melaye said this while appearing on Channels TV on Monday evening.
The 2023 off-cycle governorship election was conducted on Saturday, November 11, in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states.
The major contenders in Kogi state election were Melaye of the PDP, Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress and Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party.
Following the conclusion of collation of votes in the state on Sunday, Ododo was declared the winner of the polls.
This was met with great opposition from the PDP and SDP, both alleging of malpractices and rejecting the outcome of the election.
When asked why he didn’t participate in the voting process, Melaye responded saying, “the issue of voting or not voting has no legal status, people win elections from prison.
“If you want to go into the details of this election, the processes, conclusions, instead of buying time discussing issues that have no relevance in the election.
“Whether I voted or not is immaterial because I just said it’s immaterial because there’s no legal status whether you voted or not, I said people who are in prison win elections from prison.”
