Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State on Monday declared open the 13th Northeast conference of Directors of State Security Services in Yola, the state capital.

The two-day retreat was put in place to deliberate on the general security situation in the zone and adopt practical steps and measures to address the contemporary security challenges.

The governor said the conference was timely and relevant, considering the security threats facing the region and the country at large. He said his administration was committed to supporting the security agencies in their efforts to restore peace and stability in the state and the region.

He urged the participants to come up with workable solutions that would enhance the security network and intelligence gathering in the region. He also called for more collaboration and synergy among the security agencies and other stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the media.

The Director of State Security Service in Adamawa State, Mr. Abba Adams, said the conference was a solutions-oriented initiative of the service. He said it aimed to bring together state directors of the service to brainstorm on the security challenges in their respective areas and find ways to overcome them.

He listed some of the security threats in the region as insurgency, kidnapping, banditry, thuggery, pastoralists/farmers clash, youth restiveness, and cybercrime. He said the service was working hard to combat these threats and ensure the safety of lives and property in the region.

The conference was attended by directors of state security services from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states. Other dignitaries at the event included representatives of the military, police, civil defense, immigration, customs, correctional service, road safety corps, and other paramilitary agencies.
