The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje on Thursday, received Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, shortly after the judgement of the Appeal Court, which affirmed his victory as the duly winner of the March 18 Governorship Election in the state.
Sule and other members of his entourage were received by Ganduje at the APC National Secretariat in Abuna on Thursday.
Among those who were in the company of the Governor during the visit include: the former National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; Sen. Tanko Almakura, and other party chieftains.
Premium Politics reported earlier that the Court of Appeal in Abuja, affirmed the election of Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress, as the Governor of Nasarawa State.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, set aside the verdict of the Nasarawa state governorship election petition tribunal, which sacked Sule.
Delivering judgement on Thursday, the three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, held that the tribunal erred in law, in concluding that the Governor did not win the majority of the votes cast in the election.
The Court further ruled during its judgement, that the governor was denied a fair hearing.
It would be recalled that Dulr was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, as the winner of the election with 347,209 votes, while the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, David Ombugadu, polled 283,016 votes, came second in the election.
However, Ombugadu who was dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, citing alleged irregularities, approached the state governorship election petition tribunal, to challenge the governor’s victory.
In its ruling on October 2, 2023, the election petition tribunal in Lafia, nullified Sule’s victory and declared Ombugadu as the winner of the election.
Meanwhile, the decision by the tribunal was overturned by the Appeal Court on Thursday, November 23, 2023, affirming the victory of the governor, as it was earlier declared by the tribunal.
