The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, were on Wednesday sited at the Presidential Tribunal in Abuja, to monitor proceedings of the court.
Obi and Baba-Ahmed were also present at the Tribunal on Tuesday, to present their first witnesses in the case, challenging the credibility of the last presidential election.
However, the five-member panel of the tribunal had adjourned proceedings til today, Wednesday, May 31st.
The former Anambra State governor and his party LP had approached the court to challenge the credibility of the February 25 presidential election, the eligibility of the winner, President Bola Tinubu, the double nomination of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, among other issues to be heard at the tribunal.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Peter Obi and the Labour Party called their first witness to the stand as they continued their efforts to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the last election.
Meanwhile, before the witness, a lawyer from Anambra testified, Jibrin Okutepa, counsel to Peter Obi, submitted a judgment from a district court in the United States. The judgment reportedly implicated Tinubu in drug-related offences and ordered the forfeiture of $460,000.
However, the hearing began with Okutepa leading the presentation of evidence, during which Lawrence Nwakaeti, a lawyer based in Anambra and a witness for the LP, submitted the certified true copy of the US district court judgment.
Eyitayo Jegede, counsel for Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, also submitted various exhibits, including certified true copies of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of results, a summary of results, and a printout of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System report for each polling unit in the 36 states.
Additionally, they presented the number of Permanent Voter Cards collected in all states, including the Federal Capital Territory.
