The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has debunked rumors claiming that an Improvised Explosive Device was planted at the old Jos University Teaching Hospital site near Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area.
In a statement, Governor Mutfwang clarified that the alarm was triggered by a misunderstanding. A group of individuals had mistakenly identified a pile of polythene bags as a potential bomb threat, leading to widespread panic among residents, according to Independent.
The governor explained that security agencies, including the Plateau State Police Command’s anti-bomb squad, responded promptly to the scene.
A thorough inspection of the area was conducted, but no explosive devices were found.
Governor Mutfwang reassured the public that there was no cause for concern, urging citizens to remain vigilant and to act responsibly in safeguarding the state’s reputation.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Plateau State, noting that efforts to restore stability in the region are ongoing.
The governor further encouraged residents, particularly those near Terminus Market, to continue with their daily activities without fear. He also urged them to report any suspicious activity to the authorities for swift intervention.
