The Kano State Government has relaxed the curfew imposed on residents following recent disturbances during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
According to a Sunday broadcast by State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Baba Dantiye, the curfew now runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to restore normalcy in the state.
“The curfew would be further reviewed as the security situation improves,” Commissioner Dantiye said, conveying Governor Abba Yusuf’s condolences to families affected by the violent protests.
“We appeal for continued prayers for peace and stability.”
Similarly, the Jigawa State Government has eased the curfew in eight local government areas affected by the protests. According to a statement by Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, the curfew has been adjusted from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in the affected areas.
“It has been relaxed from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. from Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, pending when the security situation further improves.
“The State Joint Security Committee has also lifted the curfew in 19 LGAs of the state where there was no report of any violence during the protest,” the statement said.
Governor Umar Namadi praised residents for their patience and cooperation during the curfew and commended security agencies for their professionalism and dedication in managing the protest.
“We call for continued prayers for peace and stability in Nigeria,” he said.
Both state governments emphasized their commitment to monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety and well-being of their citizens.
