The 2023 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday, appeared before a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.
Sowore, who made this known through a post on his X handle, noted that he was in court in continuation of his treason trial on the #RevolutionNow protest he organised in 2019.
The social activist and founder of Sahara Reporters had shortly after the 2019 election, organised the protest to challenge some abnormalities in the government of the immediate former President Muhammadu Buhari, who won the 2019 election.
However, Sowore was picked up by the men of the Department of States Security in a hotel room in Lagos, in connection to the protest.
He was subsequently released and charged for treason after different reactions from the public who condemned the manner he was arrested and the reason he was arrested.
Sowore was however rearrested in court, a move which was condemned by the public, civil societies, legal practitioners and politicians, but was eventually released, to continue with the trial of treason charges levelled against him.
Disclosing his presence at the court on Tuesday, Sowore posted photos on his social media handle: “At the Federal High Court in Abuja for #RevolutionNow Treason trial. The revolution is very much on course!”
