Sanwo-Olu to present N2.2tr 2025 budget to Lagos assembly

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will today present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly, proposing what is expected to be a record-breaking financial plan.

The 2025 budget, expected to exceed the ₦2.267 trillion allocated in 2024, signals the administration’s ambitious vision for sustained growth in Lagos State.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the development in a statement, though he withheld the exact budget figure.

“Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday, November 21, 2025, at noon.

“The budget, themed Budget of Sustainability, is a blueprint for continuity, resilience, and prosperity for Lagosians. It is structured around five key pillars, including Infrastructure Sustainability, Economic Diversification, and Institutional Reforms,” Omotoso stated.

The 2024 Budget of Renewal, signed into law on January 18, 2024, by Governor Sanwo-Olu, amounted to ₦2.267 trillion. Its focus was on infrastructure, environment, education, technology, security, and public safety.

– Capital Expenditure: ₦1.315 trillion (58 per cent)

– Recurrent Expenditure: ₦952.4 billion (42 per cent)

The 2024 budget also included a ₦21.74 billion increment approved by the House of Assembly to fast-track the completion of critical infrastructure projects and essential interventions.

Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of budget implementation for driving economic growth and improving residents’ quality of life.

“The success of this Appropriation Law will be determined by how effective its implementation is in relation to the wellbeing of our citizens. This administration is committed to achieving the objectives and deliverables set out in the budget,” he said when signing the 2024 budget.

The 2025 budget will align with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, a framework prioritizing transportation, health, education, and infrastructure. It aims to ensure the completion of ongoing projects, furthering the vision of a “Greater Lagos.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu called on Lagosians to actively support government initiatives, emphasizing transparency and accountability in implementing the proposed budget.

“The citizens must fulfil their civic obligations, as the effort to build the state is one that requires partnership. We pledge to deliver the greatest benefits to the greatest number of residents,” he stated.

Today’s budget presentation is anticipated to outline Lagos State’s strategy for maintaining its status as a hub for development and innovation while addressing the challenges of urban expansion in Africa’s largest city.
