Edo State’s reinstated Deputy Governor, Philips Shaibu, made a surprising revelation on Friday, stating that he is effectively a member of the All Progressives Congress, despite still being officially affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party.
Shaibu’s comments came during an appearance on Arise TV’s morning show, where he was asked about his support for the APC’s governorship candidate in Edo State.
“The only thing still keeping me in the Peoples Democratic Party is because I was yet to officially dump the ruling party in Edo,” Shaibu said, revealing his intention to formally defect from the PDP.
Reacting to questions on why he was supporting the APC governorship candidate in Edo, the deputy governor maintained, “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”
Shaibu also alleged that since the political crisis in the state started, he had called his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, 101 times without the governor picking up his calls or returning them. “I had called my principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, 101 times without him picking up my calls or returning them,” Shaibu said.
