Former Senator representing Kaduna North Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has emphasized that the recovery of Kaduna’s looted $350 million World Bank loan cannot be achieved solely by questioning former Commissioners and Advisers.
He insisted that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai should also be summoned to provide explanations regarding the loan.
A few months ago, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who succeeded Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, raised concerns about inheriting a significant debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration. This situation has made it difficult for him to meet immediate financial obligations such as workers’ salaries.
In response to this revelation, the Kaduna State House of Assembly has expressed its commitment to investigating the past administration of Governor El-Rufai.
However, former Senator Shehu Sani, in a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday, stressed that El-Rufai should not be exempt from accountability. He urged that El-Rufai be summoned to clarify the whereabouts of Kaduna’s share of Paris refund, Excess Crude funds, Stamp Duties Funds, Ecological Funds, and the billions in loans obtained from the Central Bank and Domestic Banks.
He stated, “All those contractors and useless consultants who absconded with money, and all those who benefited from the misappropriation of Kaduna State properties and are still enjoying themselves, should consider themselves fortunate that it’s not Comrade Shehu Sani who is currently governing the state.”
