The Nigerian Senate was thrown into a rowdy session on Tuesday after an allegation of sharing of N500m by some ‘so-called senior’ senators while addressing the allegations of N3trn budget padding made by Senator Abdul Ningi.
Premium Politics reported that Ningi in an interview with BBC Hausa alleged that the Senate approved a N25trn 2024 budget but the presidency signed a budget to the tune of N28trn, alleging a padding of $3trn.
However, during Tuesday’s plenary over the alleged budget padding, Cross River North Senator, Agom Jarigbe, opened a can of worms by alleging that all ranking senators got the sum of N500m in the 2024 budget for constituency projects.
“We’re going forth and back on this issue and coming up with issues of the budget and individual issues concerning what came to our constituencies. If we want to go into those issues, all of us are culpable.
“Some senators here, so-called senior senators got N500m each. I am a ranking senator, I didn’t get any, did I go to the press? Most of you got, yes,” the Cross River North senator said before he was interrupted by various chants of ‘point of order’ which ushered the senate into a rowdy session.
