The Sokoto chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has re-elected Bello Goronyo as its chairman for another four-year term.
The election took place on Saturday and was attended by delegates from the state’s 23 Local Government Areas, according to Peoples Gazette.
The exercise was observed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission and party stakeholders.
Mukhtar Muhammad, Chairman of the State Delegates’ Congress, confirmed the election’s credibility and compliance with the law.
“I testify that the election was conducted without any rancour, in full compliance with the law,” Mr Muhammad stated, expressing appreciation to the delegates for their commitment to the exercise.
Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the state PDP leader and former governor, commended the delegates and electoral officials for the smooth conduct of the election. He pledged support to the newly elected executives and emphasized unity among stakeholders to address Nigeria’s challenges.
He said, “I assure you that PDP members will continue to work as one family to support your efforts and ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general elections. The task ahead is critical, and we must continue striving to achieve our goals.’’
Goronyo, in his acceptance speech, acknowledged the mandate and vowed to reclaim Sokoto State and Nigeria for the PDP. He promised to work closely with party members and stakeholders to ensure the party’s success.
“We are honoured by the confidence placed in us, and we will work closely with all party members and stakeholders to ensure PDP’s success across the state,” he said.
Other re-elected executives include Aliyu Muhammad as Deputy Chairman, Abubakar Zaki as Secretary, and various vice chairmen, treasurers, and other officials.
The re-election of Goronyo and his team is expected to solidify the PDP’s position in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
