The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, in celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, extended his congratulations to the Muslim community.
Emphasizing the essence of the festival, Speaker Abbas highlighted the themes of total submission to higher authority, sacrifice, and charity, urging Nigerians to incorporate these virtues into their daily lives. He remarked that Eid-el-Kabir holds significant meaning for Muslims, underscoring the supremacy of Allah and the importance of sacrifice. He called for a period of sober reflection and encouraged Nigerians to support one another consistently.
Additionally, Speaker Abbas appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders and to maintain a supportive and cooperative spirit for the nation’s betterment. He wished Muslims a joyous celebration and prayed for Allah’s acceptance of their sacrifices.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, congratulated Nigerian Muslims on Eid-el-Kabir. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu urged all Nigerians to strive for unity and national cohesion, invoking the adage “united we stand, divided we fall.”
Deputy Speaker Kalu emphasized that sacrifice is central to the celebration and encouraged the Muslim faithful to avoid selfishness, embodying the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, which exemplify moral excellence, compassion, and leadership. He called on Nigerians to cultivate virtues and work towards a just and compassionate society free from discrimination based on religious or ethnic differences.
He also noted the federal government’s efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve the lives of citizens through the Renewed Hope agenda and called for continuous prayers for leaders across all levels of government. Wishing Muslims a happy celebration, Deputy Speaker Kalu encouraged them to share the festivities with the underserved in the spirit of love and sacrifice.
