Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a directive urging all residents, including politicians from all political parties, to stay away from local government secretariats in order to protect public properties and prevent further bloodshed.
This directive follows the attempted takeover of local governments by members of the All Progressives Congress.
In his statement, the governor emphasized that since local government workers are currently on strike, only security agencies should be present at the secretariats. He stressed that these offices should remain locked and secured.
Governor Adeleke also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the violence that erupted due to the APC’s takeover bid. He confirmed that the People’s Democratic Party lost five members, with several others wounded in the clashes.
He detailed that two fatalities occurred in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area, two more in Ola Oluwa Local Government Area, and another in Ikire. The governor called for an end to the violence, urging all parties involved to stop the bloodshed.
Assuring residents of their safety, Governor Adeleke stated that he had instructed security agencies to take full control of all local government secretariats to ensure the protection of lives and properties in the state.
“I, therefore, direct all law abiding Osun residents to stay away from the council secretariats especially as they are expected to be under lock and key.
“I equally condole families of victims of the APC illegal takeover bid and chaos unleashed across the state by the APC and their hired thugs. PDP lost five members with several others wounded.
“Two of those members are from Iragbiji, Boripe local government. Another two were killed at Ola Oluwa Local government. Another life was lost at Ikire. We must stop the bloodshed”, the governor lamented.
