The Chief Justice of the Federation, Tanko Muhammad, has resigned following allegations of corruption levelled against him by the justices of the Supreme Court.
Justice Olukayode Ariwoola would take over as the new CJN following Senate’s confirmation.
Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the CJN, Ahuraka Isah, on Monda, confirmed to The PUNCH that Tanko has resigned.
He said, “The latest information is that the CJN has resigned; I spoke with somebody very close to him and he said he has resigned.”
Premium Politics had earlier reported that 14 Justices of the Supreme Court petitioned Tanko and complained of poor welfare conditions and the deplorable state of the court but Tanko had denied the allegations.
