The Taraba State government has announced the approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers, addressing the Nigeria Labour Congress’s strike warning to states that have not yet implemented the updated national minimum wage.

The Head of Service for the state, Paul Maigida Tino, confirmed in a statement that the new wage policy will take effect in November 2024. Tino highlighted the government’s focus on worker welfare and its dedication to meeting employees’ expectations.

“I wish to inform you that His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a N70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State, effective from November 2024, in line with his administration’s dedication to meeting the yearnings and aspirations of workers,” Tino stated.

Several civil servants, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed gratitude for the wage increase, describing it as a positive move. However, they urged the government to ensure the timely implementation of the new wage and requested the reinstatement of annual salary increments, which have been suspended for some time.
