Former All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said the Labour Party, Peter Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, can not win the 2023 elections.
Oshiomhole made this assertion on Channels TV Politics Today, Wednesday night, adding that the All Progressives Congress standard bearer, Bola Tinubu is ahead of Peter Obi and Atiku.
The former Edo State governor said both Peter Obi and Atiku ran a joint ticked in 2019 and they lost to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), they can’t win separately in 2023.
Oshiomhole argued that together in 2019, Atiku and Peter Obi lost, he can’t see how they would win in 2023 running on different platforms.
The APC campaign council deputy director-general added that the although Buhari is not eligible to contest 2023 elections, his influence from previously won elections will benefit the party.
He said, “Just four years ago, his excellency, Atiku Abubakar and my very dear friend, Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra, they had a combined ticket, and that combined force challenged the APC, challenged Buhari and unlike in 2015, Buhari scored more votes more than the combined ticket of Atiku and Peter Obi.
“My simple reasoning is united they failed, how can they possibly win divided and their constituency is the same. If you check Atiku’s vote, you’ll find out that he got more votes in the South-South and the South-East than he got in the entire North.
“So, he(Atiku) was more favoured in the South than in the North. If you check the APC voting pattern, in 2015, we lost the South-East and South-South, indeed it’s only in my senatorial zone that we delivered one senator in 2015.
“In 2019, Buhari again lost in the South East and the South-South, the highest vote, I think was from Edo State and even at that, I think we got about 46% or 48%.
“So, if the voting patterns remain the same, the meaning is that they (South-South and South East) are not going to vote for APC, which I think is true because we now have people who you can describe as having electoral assets who are now in the APC that were not there in 2019 and 2015. So, I believe that everything considered, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is ahead.”
