Tinubu appoints Aliyu as Rural Electrification Agency MD

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency.

The appointment, which took effect on January 23, 2025, is for an initial term of four years.

Aliyu, who had been serving as the acting Managing Director of REA since March 2024, has now been confirmed for the position. He brings over 20 years of experience in energy and organizational development across both the public and private sectors. His extensive background includes leadership roles in Nigeria’s power sector, with significant involvement in both on-grid and off-grid energy projects, as well as in water resources and transportation.

Prior to his new role, Aliyu held several key positions, including Head of the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project, General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research, and Deputy General Manager at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Aliyu’s ability to lead the REA and drive its mission of providing reliable electricity to rural communities across Nigeria.
