President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
A statement from the presidency highlighted that Opeifa’s appointment was based on his vast expertise and significant contributions to the reform of transportation in Nigeria.
As the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Opeifa was credited with implementing policies that greatly improved public transport and traffic management, playing a key role in shaping the state’s urban development. Prior to this new role, Opeifa served as the Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory.
Opeifa is well-regarded for his leadership in modernizing Lagos’ transport sector during his time as commissioner. In his new role, he is expected to oversee the modernization of Nigeria’s railway system, an essential element in driving the country’s economic growth.
