President Bola Tinubu has approved the sum of N50 billion for the provision of potable water in Abuja’s satellite towns, signalling his administration’s commitment to improving basic amenities in underserved areas.
While some parts of Kubwa—Abuja’s largest suburban town—alongside Bwari, Gwagwalada, and a few others benefit from public water supply, many other satellite areas depend on private initiatives for their water needs.
Speaking in Kuje town on Thursday during the commissioning of the reconstructed 5-kilometre Garage–LEA Secretariat road, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, reiterated the president’s dedication to delivering on promises of development.
“If you see our national budget which Mr President has submitted to the National Assembly, sometime last year, we went to China, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a company called CGC to provide water to the satellite towns, and one of the area councils is Kuje Area Council. So, in this year’s budget, Mr President has provided the sum of N50 billion to provide water for the satellite towns, which Kuje will be a beneficiary,” Wike stated.
The reconstructed road, which commenced in February last year, is equipped with approximately 162 solar-powered streetlights, further enhancing the area’s infrastructure.
Addressing a jubilant crowd of residents, Wike emphasised that the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda is being implemented in a non-partisan manner. “I can assure you that with your continuous support, you will get more things in Kuje. Mr Chairman, it has nothing to do with party; it has to do with your people. Party is a vehicle that conveys you, when you get to where you are heading to, you come down. Tinubu’s administration is not about party. It is about Nigerians. Changing the lives of Nigerians, and that is what we are doing here,” he said.
The minister also announced President Tinubu’s approval for the construction of the Pegi road and the Kuje-Gwagwalada link road, which will extend from the LEA Secretariat.
Additionally, Wike assured residents that the Airport–Kuje link road, currently under construction, would be completed within record time, further enhancing connectivity and easing transportation challenges in the region.
