President Bola Tinubu extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on Wednesday following his re-election as the 47th President of the United States of America.
In his message, Tinubu expressed anticipation for further strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S., especially in light of the complex global challenges and opportunities.
Tinubu’s message was delivered through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu Congratulates President-elect Trump,’ was issued on Wednesday.
The Nigerian president expressed confidence in the potential for collaboration, saying, “Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges that affect our citizens.”
He also praised Trump’s victory as a clear reflection of the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership, offering congratulations to the U.S. electorate for their commitment to democracy.
Onanuga’s statement further highlighted Tinubu’s belief that Trump’s experience as the 45th President of the United States, from 2017 to 2021, will enable him to usher in an era of meaningful and mutually beneficial economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States.
“President Tinubu believes that, given President Trump’s experience, his return to the White House as the 47th president will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States,” the statement read.
Acknowledging the significant global influence of the United States, Tinubu expressed hope that President Trump’s leadership will continue to bring the world closer to peace and prosperity.
