President Bola Tinubu has congratulated President Luong Cuong of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on his election to the presidency.
Cuong, 67, was elected by the Vietnamese parliament.
In a statement released on Sunday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that Cuong has had a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in the Vietnamese army and has been a Politburo member since 2021.
President Tinubu welcomed Cuong’s commitment to promoting Vietnam as a responsible member of the international community.
He reaffirmed the strong relations between Nigeria and Vietnam, citing the growth in trade and cultural exchange.
The President assured Cuong of Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across key sectors. These include trade, agriculture, food production, education, and cultural and technological exchange.
President Tinubu expressed hope for Cuong’s successful leadership, serving the interests of the Vietnamese people and humanity at large. This gesture underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering global cooperation and peaceful relations.
President Tinubu welcomed President Cuong’s post-election promise to promote Vietnam “as a friend, a trusted partner, an active and responsible member of the international community.”
