Tinubu Media Office has denied the alleged meeting between the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Reports had claimed that Tinubu who departed the country for France on Thursday met with Wike, though the details of the alleged meeting, rumours had it that it was tied to the furtherance of his presidential ambitions.

A chieftain of the APC and Special Adviser for Drainage and Water Resources to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe was said to have confirmed that the meeting between Tinubu and Wike held in France.

Premium Politics had reported that Wike had been left aggrieved after he was snubbed by the Peoples Democratic Party flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, who chose Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate, ditching the recommendation of 14 out of 17 members of the committee set up by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, which favoured Wike.

However, in a statement titled, ‘Asiwaju Tinubu’s Supposed Meeting With Governor Wike In France Is Fake News’, Tinubu Media Office denied the report.

“We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the chieftains of All Progressives Congress in Lagos State and media reports emanating from same about a supposed meeting in France between APC Presidential Standard-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

“It has become imperative to set the record straight. Although Asiwaju Tinubu is presently in France, he didn’t have any meeting with Governor Wike whether in that country or anywhere whatsoever.

“This, however, does not detract from the fact that the APC presidential candidate holds Governor Wike in high esteem.

“And given the national and across-party line’s appeal of Asiwaju Tinubu’s candidature, he will not hesitate to meet any important national leader when desirable.

“As made public earlier, Asiwaju Tinubu is in France for some important engagements. He will return to the country shortly.

“We would like, once again, to advise journalists to always cross-check their information with appropriate officers before rushing to press to avoid unintended errors,” Tinubu’s aide, Tunde Rahman wrote on Friday.
