President Bola Tinubu embarked on a journey from Abuja to Lagos on Saturday, initiating the commencement of the commissioning of projects completed under his administration.
Lagos served as the inaugural point of call for the president, with plans to extend the commissioning to various parts of the country throughout the week, starting from Sunday and concluding on Friday.
This series of events commemorates the first anniversary of his administration, falling on Wednesday, May 29.
A State House press statement titled “President Tinubu Set To Inaugurate Projects To Mark One Year In Office,” signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed these details.
“In Lagos on Sunday, the President will inaugurate the concrete-paved road to the nation’s major ports in Apapa and Tin Can Island. The reconstructed road, initiated under the Muhammadu Buhari Administration, was funded by the Dangote Group through its tax credits,” the statement outlined.
“Additionally, President Tinubu will officially inaugurate, via virtual means, the refurbished Third Mainland Bridge, celebrated for its remarkable finishing and aesthetic enhancements,” it continued.
The statement highlighted further virtual commissions, including the rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges nationwide, and the inauguration of the monumental Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, projected to cost approximately N15 trillion. Work has already commenced on this transformative project, with Section Two entrusted to Hitech Construction Limited.
President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Abuja on Tuesday to resume the commissioning activities. “He will first inaugurate the Southern Parkway, named after him by the Nyesom Wike-led FCT Administration,” the statement specified.
Wednesday’s agenda includes President Tinubu’s participation in the National Assembly Dialogue Series, followed by the unveiling of the National Assembly Library Complex, named in his honor. The day will also witness the commissioning of the Abuja Metro (Abuja Light Rail) project, which had been operational from 2018 to 2020 before being temporarily discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent vandalism. FCT Minister Wike’s efforts, including a $15 million investment and the construction of access roads, have revitalized the metro for commercial service.
President Tinubu will symbolically embark on a train ride to the city center before proceeding to inaugurate the Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge and the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters.
The week’s activities will conclude with the commissioning of the NASENI-Portland Compressed Natural Gas Reverse Engineering Centre at Utako on Friday, May 31.
