Tinubu grants slain Delta soldiers' children scholarships

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has awarded scholarships to the children of the 17 soldiers killed during a peace mission in the Okuama community of Delta State.

Tinubu made the announcement on Wednesday while speaking at the burial ceremony held at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

The president who described the slain soldiers as heroes of Nigeria revealed that the children of the late officers, “including those unborn” will be given scholarships till the university level.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, during the ceremony said the 17 slain soldiers left behind 10 widows and 21 children.

Tinubu said, “It is now our duty to protect the families of our departed heroes. The Federal Government will provide a house in any part of our country to each of the families of the four officers and 13 soldiers.

“The Federal Government has also approved scholarships to all the children of the deceased up to the University level.

“The Military must, within the next ninety days, ensure that all the benefits of the departed are paid to their families.

“May the families of the departed  and all their loved ones find the strength to bear the pain of this loss.”
