Tinubu leads FEC meeting, honours late ex-minister Gusau

President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.

This meeting is a regular gathering where key government decisions and policies are discussed by the President and his Cabinet members.

Before the meeting began, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, formally informed the Council of the passing of a former Minister who died on May 25, 2024, Ahmed Muhammed Gusau. In memory of Gusau, Akume led the Council in observing a minute of silence to honor the late statesman’s contributions to Nigerian public service.

The meeting is attended by Vice President Kassim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Head of Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other members of the Council.

This week’s FEC meeting follows a decision from the previous week to defer consideration of memoranda for several significant projects overseen by the Federal Ministry of Works. Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris had explained after last week’s session that these projects, inherited from past administrations, require further evaluation and augmentation before they can move forward.

Additionally, at last week’s FEC meeting, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi revealed that President Tinubu had directed a review of the Procurement Act. This review aims to establish a stronger foundation for performance in infrastructure development initiatives.
