Tinubu, others donate N750m to armed forces emblem fund

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund at a ceremony held at the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

During the event, Tinubu praised the Armed Forces for their essential role as Nigeria’s first line of defense, acknowledging their critical work in addressing various threats to national security.

Tinubu emphasized the necessity of security for fostering peace and development, noting that the Armed Forces’ dedication to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress is invaluable.

In recognition of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, announced a donation of N500 million on behalf of government officials.

Additionally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio pledged N200 million on behalf of the National Assembly, while Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa contributed N50 million on behalf of the Service Chiefs and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed every January 15 to honor fallen heroes who risked their lives to protect Nigeria and its citizens. The upcoming 2025 observance will mark the second Remembrance Day President Tinubu has hosted since taking office.

On January 15, President Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, the Senate President, Chief Justice of the Federation, and other dignitaries are expected to lay wreaths in tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.
