Tinubu restructures media team, adopts collective spokesperson model

President Bola Tinubu has revamped the State House media team, introducing a collective spokesperson model aimed at improving communication and the coordination of government policies.

The changes were disclosed on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, via a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

As part of the restructuring, Sunday Dare has been reassigned as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications, while Daniel Bwala has been re-designated as Special Adviser, Policy Communication. These roles, alongside Onanuga’s, will collectively function as the presidency’s spokespersons.

“President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the positions of two recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery,” Onanuga stated.

Providing further details, Onanuga said, “Mr. Sunday Dare—hitherto Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation—is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications. Mr. Daniel Bwala—announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication—is now Special Adviser, Policy Communication.”

The statement emphasized that the adoption of the collective spokesperson model aims to ensure consistent, accurate, and streamlined communication from the government.

The restructuring comes after Ajuri Ngelale, the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, went on indefinite leave in September 2024 due to family medical concerns. President Tinubu accepted Ngelale’s leave request and expressed his sympathy for the situation.

Ngelale’s departure prompted the earlier appointments of Dare and Bwala. With the latest adjustments, all three advisers—Dare, Bwala, and Onanuga—will now collaborate to manage and oversee the presidency’s communication strategy effectively.
