The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, will return to Nigeria today after departing France amid the controversy over his running mate.

The former Lagos State governor shared a video of himself in a plane departing a French airport with the caption “heading home” on his verified social media handles.

Tinubu departed the country on Monday, June 17 “to hold some important meetings. The APC standard-bearer is expected back in the country shortly,” his spokesman, Tunde Rahman, had said in Abuja.

However, as the controversy over his running mate remains a major topic for debate in the country, Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, on Friday said Tinubu has agreed to pick a Muslim running mate.

“We have advised him to pick a Muslim deputy and he has agreed.

“A Muslim-Muslim ticket is a reality. It is not something new in Nigeria,” he said.

Ganduje asked the clerics to pray for Tinubu to emerge as Nigeria’s president come 2023.

He also urged them to offer prayers for his administration’s peace and progress.

Ganduje and his Kaduna State counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai, are atop the list of politicians considered as Tinubu’s running mate.

Meanwhile, a report by The PUNCH earlier this month claimed that Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State or his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, may emerge as Tinubu’s running mate.

The report also said that El-Rufai was eventually dropped, even though he played an active role in the emergence of Tinubu as the candidate of the party.
