Tinubu swears in new perm secs, presides over FEC meeting

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to eight newly appointed Federal Permanent Secretaries, addressing both current and upcoming vacancies within state and regional administrations.

This move is part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to strengthen governance structures and ensure efficient administration at various levels of government.

The swearing-in event took place just before the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, a routine gathering where critical national issues are discussed and decisions are made.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, indicated that the FEC session would be split into two parts: the inauguration of the Permanent Secretaries and the subsequent Council meeting, reflecting the significance of these appointments in the government’s agenda.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, facilitated the brief swearing-in ceremony, which proceeded in two segments.

During the ceremony, the citations of the new Permanent Secretaries were read sequentially, highlighting their qualifications and the roles they are expected to play in their respective capacities.

The appointees included Dr. Emanso Umobong Okop from Akwa-Ibom, Obi Emeka Vitalis from Anambra, Mahmood Fatima from Bauchi, and Danjuma Mohammed Sanusi from Jigawa. Additional inductees were Olusanya Olubunmi from Ondo, Dr. Keshinro Maryam Ismaila from Zamfara, Akujobi Chinyere Ijeoma representing the South-East, and Isokpunwu Christopher Osaruwanmwen for the South-South. These appointments are seen as strategic, aimed at leveraging the expertise of individuals from diverse backgrounds to enhance public service delivery across the country.

In a separate development, the cabinet members extended their congratulations to President Tinubu on his re-election as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States. This re-election underscores Tinubu’s influential role and leadership within the region. Representing the Council, the SGF remarked that West African regional leaders had recognized a dedicated leader in President Tinubu, one who is committed to the advancement and development of both the country and the African continent, prompting his re-election. This acknowledgment from regional peers is a testament to Tinubu’s diplomatic engagement and his efforts to foster regional cooperation and development.
