Former United States President Donald Trump criticized the European Union and his Democratic opponents during a delayed two-hour conversation with Elon Musk on X.
The interview, which was scheduled for 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, was postponed by over 40 minutes due to technical issues, which Musk blamed on a cyber attack.
Trump responded to an open letter from EU internal market boss Thierry Breton, who asked him not to spread disinformation, by claiming that the EU is “bad” on trade with the US and criticizing NATO for not spending enough on defense.
“That’s probably why they notified you. They don’t treat our country well,” Trump said.
In the conversation, Trump also took aim at US President Joe Biden and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, blaming them for a rise in illegal immigration.
“She is a San Francisco liberal who destroyed San Francisco, and then as attorney-general, she destroyed California. She’s going to be worse than him,” he said.
Trump also discussed the recent assassination attempt at a campaign rally and his good relationships with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim-Jong Un.
He questioned whether Harris was tough enough to stand up to overseas leaders, saying, “There are some real tough characters out there. And if they don’t think the American president is tough, they will do what they want to do.”
The conversation was marked by technical issues, with Musk blaming a DDoS attack for the delay. The listener count showed 1.2 million tuning in live, despite Trump’s claim that 60 million people had tuned in.
The Harris campaign responded to the interview, stating, “Trump’s extremism and dangerous Project 2025 agenda is a feature not a glitch of his campaign, which was on full display for those unlucky enough to listen in tonight during whatever that was on X.”
