Kremlin, on Monday, denied a report by The Washington Post that former United States President and president-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Thursday, urging him to avoid escalating the Ukraine conflict.
On Sunday, The Washington Post reported that Trump had reached out to Putin, advising against actions that could further inflame tensions in Ukraine.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refuted the report on Monday, calling it “completely false information” and asserting that no such call took place.
This allegation comes at a time of heightened international scrutiny, as world leaders closely watch the Ukraine conflict, wary of potential escalations that could have significant diplomatic and geopolitical repercussions.
If the reported conversation had taken place, it would have been a rare direct communication between Trump and Putin since Trump’s recent presidential victory.
