World leaders on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump, who declared himself winner of the United States presidential poll.
When announced, Trump, a former US president, would make history as the oldest ever president at the time of inauguration, the first felon president and only the second in history to serve non-consecutive terms.
With indications of Trump’s victory from poll results, world leaders on Wednesday started congratulating the former president, with President Bola Tinubu describing Trump’s victory as a clear reflection of the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership.
“President Tinubu believes that, given President Trump’s experience, his return to the White House as the 47th president will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States,” Tinubu said in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Also, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, described Trump’s victory as “history’s greatest comeback”.
“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!” Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office.
On his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, while congratulating Trump, hoped the former president’s return to the White House would bring lasting peace to the Middle East.
“I wish him all the success… and I look forward to reaching peace together, upholding regional stability and strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and their friendly peoples,” Sisi said on X.
South Korea’s President, Yoon Suk Yeol, also mulled close relationship with the US after Trump claimed victory in the US presidential election.
“Under your strong leadership, the future of the ROK-U.S. alliance and America will shine brighter. Look forward to working closely with you,” Yoon posted on X, referring to South Korea by its official acronym.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah II of Jordan, in his congratulatory message, hoped Jordan-US could work for peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Trump, whom he described as “my friend Donald Trump”.
“I hope Turkey-US relations will strengthen, that regional and global crises and wars, especially the Palestinian issue and the Russia-Ukraine war, will come to an end,” the Turkish president wrote on X.
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, congratulated Trump and pledged to work on a “strong transatlantic partnership”.
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on your victory and your election as 47th President of the US. We will work on our strategic bilateral relations and on a strong transatlantic partnership,” Sanchez wrote on X.
