Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, endorsed Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu CFR, as the President General, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo.
The governor endorsed the choice of Chief Iwuanyanwu, as a result of the decision, taken by Igbo leaders, who believed he was capable of the position, due to his pedigree and his records.
The vacuum for the position of President of the social-cultural group was created by the death of the immediate past president of the association, the late Ambassador George Obiozor.
However, the decision to fill the vacuum left behind, by the late president, was taken by the Imo State Council of Elders and other notable Igbo leaders.
In its first quarterly meeting, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, the Imo State Council of Elders, adopted the choice of Chief Iwuanyanwu, as the next Ohaneze Ndi Igbo President, and presented the same to the governor.
Revealing this through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Governor Uzodimma twitted “The unanimous adoption of Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu CFR (Aha Eji Eje Mba Ndi Igbo), by the Imo State Council of Elders and other notable Igbo Leaders, for the President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, is a welcome development.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu has been rendering selfless service to Imo State, the Igbo race, and the nation at large, for decades and I am not surprised that this historic adoption is coming but then, I commend him for accepting to serve the Igbos and the nation, once more.
“I reassured that every necessary support to actualize this aspiration of Ndi Igbo shall be provided by the State Government. This is done in good faith as we are keen for a safer and more productive Igbo nation and Nigeria at large.
