The embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, has announced plans to encourage Governor Alex Otti of Abia State to rejoin the party.
Wabara praised Otti’s developmental achievements, describing them as evidence-based and free from party politics, and expressed the PDP’s desire to welcome the governor back into its fold.
Wabara made the statement during an event at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital. He commended Otti’s efforts, saying that his governance had been outstanding and that both Otti and his Enugu State counterpart, Governor Peter Mbah, had set a high standard for leadership in the Southeast region.
Wabara emphasized that politics should end after elections and that governance begins with tangible results. He acknowledged the positive developments in Abia under Otti’s leadership, noting that even critics from the All Progressives Congress had recognized the governor’s achievements.
In his address, Wabara also praised Governor Peter Mbah for his development initiatives in Enugu State, highlighting that both governors were leading the way in the region. He pointed out that despite Otti’s current affiliation with the Labour Party, his performance was noteworthy, and no one could predict where he might align politically in the future.
Wabara further expressed his support for Otti, stating that the PDP was actively trying to bring him back into the party fold, adding, “Governor, we are all wooing you.”
This development comes amid an ongoing crisis within the PDP, with Wabara facing suspension from the party’s Abia State Working Committee. However, the PDP’s National Working Committee nullified the suspension, with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, asserting that the suspension violated the party’s constitution and due process.
He said: “Politics ends after campaigns and elections, then governance begins. Even a blind man can see what is happening in Abia.
“Governor, continue to do well. Our ancestors in Abia are with you, and I want to believe that you are on constant touch with them for guidance. Every Abian is happy with you.
“I came from Enugu two days ago and I saw the massive development by Governor Peter Mbah of the PDP. Even APC people are confessing that you and your colleague, Peter Mbah are pace setters.
“I have never mentioned your party – the Labour Party. I have always said Gov Alex Otti is doing well. Nobody knows where he will swing in 2027. So, when these characters ( Wabara’s critics) are doing this and that, let them know I’m talking about Alex Otti. We are all wooing him. Governor, we are all wooing you”.
