Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State warmly welcomed Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, describing him as a symbol of courage, perseverance, compassion, and the oneness of humanity.
”You are an inspiration to the youths and an epitome of patriotism,” the governor told Prince Harry during his courtesy visit to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.
Sani reminisced about a historic event 68 years ago when Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry’s grandmother, was warmly received in Kaduna on 2nd February 1956 by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Premier of Northern Nigeria.
The governor commended Prince Harry for his selfless service to the United Kingdom and humanity, noting his significant contribution as a Captain in the UK’s Air Force.
“In spite of your privileged upbringing and position in the royal family, you opted to serve your country on the battlefield,” Sani said, acknowledging Prince Harry’s dedication.
Sani further applauded Prince Harry’s exemplary activism in wildlife conservation, especially in Africa, and his efforts in founding a charity for children in Lesotho.
Highlighting the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the UK, Sani mentioned that Kaduna became the capital of Northern Nigeria in 1917, emphasizing its continued significance as the political and cultural capital of Northern Nigeria.
Expressing gratitude for Prince Harry’s support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Governor Sani thanked him for his commitment to inspiring and supporting the troops.
Prince Harry’s visit to Kaduna aimed to uplift the morale of Nigerian troops who were wounded in various theaters of operations and were receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.
During his visit to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Prince Harry expressed his desire to boost the morale of the wounded soldiers, ensuring them that hope was not lost.
He mentioned that the ‘Invictus Games’, an initiative he spearheaded, had brought joy to the injured Nigerian troops, as reported by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.
Prince Harry stressed the importance of maintaining the spirits of the soldiers and ensuring that, despite their injuries, they could lead fulfilling lives. He emphasized the role of sports and the support their families receive in the soldiers’ rehabilitation.
