A former presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, has revealed the reason former President Muhammadu Buhari banned the importation of rice into the country.
Shehu leaked the secret in Abuja on Thursday at an event organized by Daily Trust.
He stated that the former regime banned the importation of rice because the nation had grown as much rice that could feed the country.
He maintained that it was the rice grown from the country that fed the western part of the continent.
He claimed that a visit to boarder states will reveal how food from the country are massively pushed out of the country.
“His [Buhari’s] government banned the importation of rice because we were growing as much as we needed for the country. In fact, Nigeria fed West Africa. You need to be in any of the border states, either Kano, Katsina or Jigawa to see how food, even as of today, is being moved massively out of the country. We are feeding West Africa,” Shehu disclosed.
