Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said why the winner of 1993 general elections, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola could become Nigeria’s president was due to the actions of bad people.
After twenty-five years of the demise of Chief M.K.O Abiola, the former president revealed why the late politician could not become Nigeria’s president.
M.K.O Abiola was the named winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
However, the business magnate and philanthropist was denied the position as the election was annulled by former Military Head ofSstate, Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babagida rtd, and later assassinated on July 7, 1998.
While delivering a speech on Wednesday at a lecture titled, “Eyin ni Iwe Wa: You Are Our Epistle,” in Ogun State, Obasanjo said MKO Abiola could not be Nigeria’s president three decades ago due to the actions of some bad people.
The former military head disclosed this at centenary celebration of the Baptist High School, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He said Abiola, a product of BBHES was denied his mandate.
Obasanjo noted that without the moral virtues and sound education impacted on him by BBHS; he would not have become what he is today.
He explained that the school molded the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, former judged of the International Court of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola, among others into what they all became in life.
Awolowo was at BBHS in 1928, Ajibola graduated in 1955; Abiola was among the 1956 set, while Obasanjo left the school in 1957 according to the report.
Obasanjo stated further that apart from education, the 100-year-old school had , at different times , instilled godly virtue in all its products.
He said, “without BBHS, I would not have been what I am today.”
