Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed reasons why the next Nigerian President, must be willing to do one term in office.

Nigerians are expected to elect a new President on the 25th of February 2023 following the expiration of the incumbent President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

El-Rufai stated that the next Nigerian President must make difficult economic choices to set Nigeria on the path to economic growth at the expense of his/her re-election.

He stated this at the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update and Country Economic Memorandum on Thursday in Abuja.

El-Rufai insisted that tough decisions were required to return Nigeria to the decade of growth experienced under President Obasanjo’s administration.

He stated that Nigeria’s next president must be willing to make difficult, immediate, and urgent decisions that will cause the country to suffer for 3-5 years before reversing the trend.

He said, “I am proud to be a member of the Obasanjo administration that decade of growth the 2010 trajectory, we were in that government, and we knew what the President had to do, ready to act” he said.

“The next President of Nigeria must be willing to do one term and reverse Nigeria’s poor economic trajectory”.

The next presidential election is expected to be contested by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party; Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

El-Rufai is a member of the ruling APC, is among one of the governors who are actively backing the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu.
