A group known as The National Patriotic Elders Forum of Nigeria has called on the members-elect of the 10th National Assembly, to respect the decision of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu and the party leadership on the choice of Godswill Akpabio/Barau Jibrin as Senate President and Deputy, respectively.
The President of the forum, Dr Bature Abdulaziz, who made this call while speaking with the newsmen in Kano on Friday, said the cooperation between the lawmakers and their party, will form a formidable 10th NASS.
“We are aware of the fact everything that is happening at both National Chambers was merely political, but we should be mindful of the fact that those who will emerge as leaders need understanding and cooperation of the executive arm to meet the desired political developments we all been clamouring for.
“I strongly advise our elected representatives to respect the choice of the President-elect and the leadership of the party for the build up of the 10th National Assembly,” he advised.
Abdul Aziz, who explained that Nigeria has witnessed a lot of political crisis, which have repeatedly affected the growth and development of the country, said a good political synergy between the legislative and the executive, will help the country’s growth.
He explained further that the party leadership and the President-elect’s choice of leadership must have been selected carefully, for a smooth relationship, to help the developmental plan of the administration.
According to him, such influential political resolution will only be possible through mutual understanding between the executive and the legislative arms of government.
“To us, for the President-elect to quickly point at a direction of who he wants, to be the President of the Senate tells a lot about his preparations in the governance of Nigeria; is not for nothing, he must have seen good qualities in those he pointed at.”
Mr AbdulAzeez, who advised Tinubu to make provision for poverty alleviation, in his administration, said the forum stands to checkmate political activities in the country, to ensure a good governance, noting that the group does not take sides of any political player.res
“Nigerians have suffered too much, they need urgent means that will make them smile and believes that they have made a right choice in Bola Tinubu and other elected leaders.
“Therefore, this should be the yardstick upon how the government will focus its attention,” he said.
