The National Youth Council of Nigeria, in partnership with the Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation and Grassroot Advancement in Nigeria, organized a peace accord meeting for all political parties taking part in the election in the Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State less than 24 hours before the presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Punch reported that in order to demonstrate their commitment to a secure and peaceful electioneering process in the state, the candidates from different political parties in the western senatorial district signed the peace pact during the meeting on Friday.
The summit with the candidates, political parties, members of the youth council, and key stakeholders earlier that day concluded with the signing of the peace agreement.
A representative of NYC, Idris Muazu, read the peace pact agreement. He stated that all candidates running for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate in Kogi west have jointly resolved to ensure peaceful and credible elections in their respective constituencies.
According to him, the agreement inked requires all political parties to accept the results of the elections or, in the event of disagreement, to take legal recourse.
It obligates candidates and their parties to accept the results of the elections so long as they are deemed to be legitimate, free, and fair.
He emphasized again how crucial it was to sign the peace agreement, which required all political parties and candidates to hold peaceful elections.
The governor said, “Our state needs a stable and dependable democracy to be able to appropriately manage its difficulties and deliver the needed leadership that matches the expectations of our teeming public.
