The Nigerian Bar Association has its members are obligated to ensure a free and fair election on Saturday and March 11.
The NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, made this known while speaking during an interview on Channels TV on Friday.
According to him, the NBA are prepared to do whatever it can do help the Independent National Electoral Commission succeed in the forthcoming general elections.
He said, “We appreciate our responsibility in the conduct of elections, that is why when we came on board we were very clear to tell Nigerians that there is one thing we owe Nigerians, we told ourselves as members of the legal profession ‘we owe Nigerians sincere participation in the electoral process’ and by that I mean even as you go to the polls you conduct yourself well, as someone who is entitled to vote
“If you participate in the pre-election matters, you also have to conduct yourself well, similarly in the conduct of the post-election matters, there is no way start and conclude the elections without the participation of members of the legal profession.
“And so, one thing that we are doing as a BAR is to make a commitment to Nigerians that we would participate honestly and sincerely in order to get a free, fair, credible and verifiable elections and that is why we are partnering with INEC as we have always done, to make sure that in whatever way that the Nigerian Bar Association can support and lend its own expertise and skill in helping INEC to succeed in its bid, we are prepared.”
