The secretary of a faction of the All Progressive Congress in Zamfara state, Hon Mansur Khalifa Kaura, has said that the ongoing internal crisis within the party in the State may lead to a repeat of the party’s failure to form a government in 2019.
Kaura’s warning comes as the party faces internal conflicts and power struggles, which he believes may ultimately lead to its downfall in the 2027 general elections.
Kaura’s statement highlights the historical context of the party’s struggles in Zamfara State, referencing the failed predictions of Senator Kabir Marafa in 2019. Marafa had warned of an impending crisis within the party, which has now manifesting in the current internal conflicts.
Kaura identifies three key factors contributing to the party’s problems: “political arrogance” by one of the party’s leaders, who believes the party cannot exist without him and uses money to influence decisions; “childish behavior” and a lack of seriousness by another leader, who relies on opportunity rather than competency and manipulates power within the party; and “blind followers” who are psychologically enslaved by poverty and succumb to the threats of the other two leaders due to monetary inducements.
These characteristics, Kaura argues, have led to the current crisis within the Zamfara APC and will continue to plague the party unless addressed. He suggests that the formation of a new “Mega party” may be the only solution, as it may attract disillusioned APC members, including Senator Yari and Minister Bello Muhammad Matawalle, who are currently embroiled in the party’s internal conflicts.
